EREA welcomed around 80 guests representing the aviation community to its traditional end of the year event on the 17th of December, hosted by the beautiful BelVue Museum in Brussels.
The event was opened by Prof. BLANDINI, the EREA Chair, and focused around 2 panel discussions:
First panel on “Views on aviation in FP10”
Featuring Ms. Nathalie ERRARD, Head of Public Affairs EU & NATO, Airbus, Mr. Thierry ROUGE-CARRASSAT, Vice-President, Technology Strategy and R&T Programs, SAFRAN GROUP; Prof. Antonio BLANDINI, EREA Chair, CIRA President, and Dr. Helge PFEIFFER, EASN Secretary General.
Second panel on “How to Accelerate Certification: Speeding up the Time to Market through Improved Certification”
Brought on stage, Mr. Alain LEROY, Chief Engineer, EASA, Dr. Markus FISCHER, Divisional Board Member Aeronautics, DLR, EREA Board member, Mr. Philippe BEAUMIER, Aeronautics Director, ONERA, EREA Future Sky Board member.
Highlight of the event was the statement on the “Key common messages of EREA – ASD – EASN on next EU Framework Programme for R&I”, announced by the EREA Chair, Prof. BLANDINI.
In preparation for the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, EREA (Association of European Research Establishments in Aeronautics), ASD (AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe) and EASN (European Aeronautics Science Network) have decided to speak with a common voice and to join their forces to support aviation in the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
EREA Best Paper Award 2024
The 2024 EREA Annual Event concluded with recognizing the hard work of our researchers through the annual EREA Best Paper Award:
1st place and wining paper: “IMOTHEP European project: an investigation of hybrid electric propulsion for commercial aircraft”
Presents a synthesis of the results and conclusions of the IMOTHEP project, which explored how hybrid electric propulsion systems could be used in commercial aircraft to reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions, and make aviation more sustainable in the future.

2nd place paper: “Including Blade Elasticity into Frequency-Domain Propeller Whirl Flutter Analysis”
Explores how making propeller blades more flexible impacts their stability during flight, especially in situations where vibrations can occur. It aims to better understand and predict how these blades behave to improve the safety and efficiency of aircraft.

3rd place paper: “Next generation fatigue crack growth experiments of aerospace materials”
Focusing on advanced experiments designed to study the behaviour of fatigue crack growth in aerospace materials, aiming to improve the understanding of material durability and performance for next-generation aircraft applications.
